Le diabète sucré est une maladie métabolique caractérisée par une concentration élevée de glucose (sucre) dans le sang. L'anomalie principale en cause dans le diabète est une pathologie de la sécrétion ou de l’utilisation de l'insuline, qui reconnaît de multiples causes.

Le diabète est une affection fréquente qui touche 300’000 personnes en Suisse, 53 millions en Europe et 200 millions dans le monde. On note de nombreux nouveaux cas chaque année (20’000 par an en Suisse). Cette augmentation, ici comme dans le monde, est d’une ampleur telle que l’OMS la qualifie « d’épidémie ».

Un autre problème métabolique majeur actuel est l’obésité. L’obésité est devenu un problème de santé publique en Suisse aussi, avec 1/3 de sa population qui souffre d’un excédent de poids et ce dès le plus jeune age (chez les enfants de 3 à 16 ans on note 3,5% d’obèse et 14% en surpoids). Directement en relation avec la survenue de pathologies chroniques comme le diabète, l’hypertension et l’élévation des graisses sanguines (cholestérol), sa prise en charge précoce est d’une importance capitale. Complexe, son suivi nécessite un encadrement pluridisciplinaire de spécialistes formés à cet égard (endocrinologues, internistes, nutritionnistes).

Diabetes is a metabolic disease characterised by high levels of glucose (sugar) in the blood. The main underlying abnormality in diabetes is a disruption of the secretion or utilisation of insulin, which can be caused by numerous factors.

Diabetes is a common illness that affects 300,000 individuals in Switzerland, 53 million in Europe and 200 million worldwide. Substantial numbers of new cases are observed each year (20,000 a year in Switzerland). This increase, both in Switzerland and worldwide, is large enough to be described by the WHO as one of "epidemic" proportions.

Another current major metabolic problem is obesity. Obesity has become a public health problem in Switzerland as well, with 1/3 of its population being considered overweight. Even the youngest are affected (among children aged 3 to 16 some 3.5% are obese and 14% overweight). Since obesity is directly related to the onset of chronic disorders such as diabetes, hypertension and elevated blood lipids (cholesterol), early management is crucially important. The complex follow-up requires a multidisciplinary approach involving specially trained professionals (endocrinologists, internists, nutritionists).

CHIRURGIE DE LA MAIN

Les pathologies intéressant la main et le poignet sont nombreuses et variées. Elles peuvent être secondaires à des maladies rhumatismales - comme l’arthrose du pouce par exemple - ou congénitales. Elles sont souvent secondaires à des traumatismes, en particulier au niveau du poignet. En effet on ne « marche » pas sur les mains, et un trouble au niveau du poignet passe souvent inaperçu. L’arthroscopie du poignet permet le diagnostic précoce de lésions habituellement découvertes à un stade trop tardif (pseudarthrose du scaphoïde, lésions des ligaments scapho-lunaire et triangulaire…) et surtout leur traitement par voie arthroscopique, c’est-à-dire sans cicatrices. Cette technique permet en outre le traitement de lésions connues de manière beaucoup plus satisfaisante pour les patients.

A titre d’exemple, la résection des kystes synoviaux du poignet ou le traitement du syndrome du canal carpien se font aujourd’hui sans cicatrice et permettent une reprise immédiate de la mobilité.

Professeur Mathoulin est un spécialiste de la chirurgie de la main et du poignet. Il est l’un des pionniers dans le développement de l’arthroscopie du poignet et est à la tête de la plus grande société savante en charge de son enseignement.

A wide variety of pathological conditions affects the hand and wrist. These may be secondary to rheumatic disorders - such as arthritis of the thumb - or congenital illnesses. They are often secondary to trauma, particularly trauma involving the wrist. In fact, since we don't "walk" on our hands, a problem with the wrist often goes unnoticed. Arthroscopy of the wrist facilitates the early diagnosis of lesions that are usually discovered only at an advanced stage (pseudoarthrosis of the scaphoid, lesions of the scapholunate and triangular ligaments…) and, in particular, their treatment via the arthroscopic route, i.e. without scars. This technique can also be used to treat familiar lesions in a much more satisfactory manner for patients.

La Clinique de Montchoisi compte plusieurs spécialistes en chirurgie orthopédique de renommée qui traitent les affections de l’appareil locomoteur : ensemble des os, articulations, tendons et muscles assurant le mouvement.

Plus particulièrement, les greffes autologues de cartilage sont pratiquées à Montchoisi. Cette technique permet de greffer du cartilage issu des propres cellules du patient.

Specifically, Montchoisi performs autologous cartilage transplants. This technique allows to grow and transplant cartilage from the patient's own cells.

A cataract is a clouding of the crystalline lens of the eye. Surgery is the only method to improve vision that was altered by a cataract. The Center’s ophthalmic surgeons use latest-generation artificial lenses (implants) to correct any vision disorders.
